Nominate for Public Service Award

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2001 Chancellor’s Award for Public Service, which recognizes and rewards those members of the campus community who have performed extraordinary community service.

This annual award recognizes three individuals – one faculty/academic, one staff, and one student/resident/postdoctoral scholar – for outstanding public service in an off-campus community setting.

In addition, nominees may be selected to receive the Thomas N. Burbridge Public Service Award or the Edison Uno Public Service Award. Candidates for all awards must demonstrate outstanding public service beyond the scope of their normal job duties or student requirements.

To be eligible for the Burbridge Award, a nominee must demonstrate particular contributions to equal education and employment opportunity, and social justice.

To be eligible for the Uno Award, a nominee must demonstrate personal involvement with established social, political, and civic groups that bring about social change. Candidates should have been involved in a minimum of two unrelated public service activities.

The awards are for $2,000 each, with an additional $100 given by the UCSF Black Caucus for the Thomas Burbridge Service Award. The awards will be presented at a luncheon honoring the recipients as part of Founders Day festivities on April 17.

The award description and nomination form are also available on the Chancellor’s Office website. Nominations must be submitted to the Chancellor’s Award for Public Service Committee, c/o Public Affairs, Box 0462, by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30.
