UC-CUE Agreement Update

As previously announced, the University of California and the Coalition of University Employees (CUE) have reached tentative agreement on a first contract. A summary of that agreement can be found online.

The agreement is being sent out for a ratification vote by the membership of CUE with a voting deadline of December 19 and the results are expected to be certified and communicated shortly thereafter.

Chancellor Bishop has asked UCSF Human Resources to help ensure that CUE members have the opportunity to fully participate in the ratification process and to expedite the implementation of the agreement as much as possible, should ratification occur.

CUE has asked that up to one hour of release time be made available for each clerical employee to go to a polling place on campus to ask questions about and/or cast their vote on ratification of the contract. The campus' Human Resources department is asking all managers to honor such requests to the fullest extent allowed by work requirements.

The tentative agreement provides for a series of separate retroactive pay adjustments and specifies that full implementation will be achieved in no more than 150 days from the date of ratification. The logistics of these payments are truly formidable, requiring a complex set of analyses and actions by both UC Office of the President and campus units. UCSF has already initiated planning to expedite the implementation so that it can be prepared to press ahead as soon as ratification is complete, says Randy Lopez, assistant vice chancellor-Human Resources.
