Honors for Diversity Efforts

Seventeen departments and units were honored this week for "best plans and achievements in staff diversity."

As part of the campus' Diversity Week Celebration, the following major organizational planning groups were honored at a luncheon Tuesday for their "efforts to improve staff diversity and promoting a climate of acceptance and integration at UCSF:" Vice Chancellor--Academic Affairs; University Advancement and Planning; Accounting; ITS; Campus Auxiliary Services; the School of Dentistry's department of oral surgery; the School of Medicine's departments of anesthesia, epidemiology and international health, medicine, neurological surgery, neurology, ophthalmology, and radiation oncology; the School of Nursing's Dean's Office; Institute for Health and Aging; School of Pharmacy's Dean's Office; and the Molecular Design Unit.

These groups were among 62 campus units that submitted reports to the Office of Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity and Diversity for evaluation. The Medical Center was not included in this cycle of review, but will be a part of the next evaluation. The recognition luncheon was a culmination of a lengthy process, which began with the production of the Campus Affirmative Action Plan.

The groups were honored for a wide range of plans, ranging from providing diversity training to all managers and staff to creative employment outreach efforts.
