Flu Shot Clinics Delayed Because of production delays in the nation's supply of flu vaccine, the UCSF Medical Center will begin its flu shot clinics for both patients and employees after mid-November, several weeks later than usual. The UCSF annual Flu Vaccine Clinic for patients will be held from Monday, Nov. 27 to Friday, Dec. 8 in the Ambulatory Care Center at 400 Parnassus Ave. The drop-in clinic will be held in the lobby level near the Registration desk. Hours will be Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. No registration is required for the free vaccine. An early November flu shot clinic for patients at Mount Zion has been postponed. The new date will be announced next month. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has said that those who receive vaccinations in late November and early December will have adequate time to develop protection from the flu. The CDC has asked that flu shots be provided first to patients at high risk from complications of influenza such as the elderly, those with chronic medical conditions and weakened immune systems, and women in their second or third trimester of pregnancy as well as health care providers. Diane Vogelei, acting manager of Employee and Occupational Health Services, said dates for free employee inoculations haven't yet been scheduled, but they're expected to take place about the same time that patients are offered flu shots. Employees involved in direct care with patients will have priority. More information will be provided when employee inoculations are scheduled. Links: |
