Nominations Sought for MLK Awards

Nominations are now being sought for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards to be given during the campus MLK Week in January, 2001.

The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, October 13.

Three awards are given annually -- one each to a faculty/academic member, a staff member and a student. The selection criteria are as follows:

Extraordinary leadership in the development and implementation of programs or activities which in the campus community have:

  • promoted and advanced mutual respect, understanding and appreciation for cultural and ethnic diversity;
  • promoted and advanced the recruitment and hiring and admission of underrepresented ethnic groups;
  • promoted and advanced the retention and career mentoring of underrepresented ethnic groups;
  • assisted in ensuring an equal opportunity for career advancement for underrepresented ethnic groups;
  • encouraged the participation of traditionally underrepresented groups.

Greater consideration will be given to employees for accomplishments above and beyond their normal job responsibilities.

Any member of the campus community may submit nominations. For more information or for nomination forms, call the Office of Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity/Diversity, 476-4752.

Nomination forms are also available at the Office of the Chancellor, S-126, at the Moffitt Hospital Information Desk, and on the web.

Nominations must be returned to the Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity/Diversity Office,

Box 0988, 3333 California Street, Suite 101; by 5 p.m., Friday, October 13.
