Fulbright Honor for Pediatrics Professor

Robert K. Kamei, associate professor of pediatrics and director of the Pediatric Residency Training Program, has been selected for the prestigious Senior Fulbright Scholar Lectureship in Indonesia for the academic year 2000-2001.

He will spend ten months in Indonesia teaching at Udayana University and will continue his work on children's health issues with the East Bali Poverty Project in Indonesia. Kamei plans to use his experience in Indonesia to develop a training program in international health care for pediatric residents at UCSF upon his return.

The International Education and Cultural Exchange Program, known as the Fulbright Program, was established by Congress in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas. The program is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and people of other countries. Scholarships are awarded to individuals who are selected on the basis of their academic and professional qualifications as well as their ability and willingness to share ideas and experiences with people of diverse cultures.
