Clinical Research Symposium, Sept. 18

The School of Medicine will present a symposium Monday, September 18, to discuss the best clinical research and give young investigators an opportunity to showcase their work and meet with colleagues.

The event will be held, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at Laurel Heights, Room 231.

The keynote presentation will be by William Claypool, senior vice president and director of clinical research and development at Smithkline Beecham, who will discuss relationships between academia and industry. His presentation will be at noon.

Other talks include:

  • "Who Benefits from Mammography? Findings from Studies at UCSF," by Karla Kerlikowske, UCSF assistant professor of medicine and epidemiology and director of the Women Veterans Comprehensive Health Care Center at the SF Veterans Administration Medical Center.

  • "What the GCRCs Can Do for You," by Joel Palefsky, UCSF professor of laboratory medicine and medicine.

  • "Future Directions for Clinical Research at UCSF," by Steven Cummings, assistant dean for clinical research, School of Medicine.

The program will also include poster sessions and an award presentation for "Clinical Research Mentor of the Year."
