Dental and Pharmacy Graduations Wrap Up School Year More than 200 students graduated Saturday at commencements held by the Schools of Dentistry and Pharmacy. In separate ceremonies at the Nob Hill Masonic Auditorium, the School of Dentistry graduated 79 dental and 18 dental hygiene students, and the School of Pharmacy conferred 106 new doctor of pharmacy degrees. The schools also honored their top students and teachers. Dental student Cameron Aboudara and Naz Massoumi, of the dental hygiene program, were winners of the Elizabeth Fuhriman Gardner Awards, which recognize scholastic achievement, service to the community, leadership qualities, and demonstrated concern for others. The School of Pharmacy awarded its highest honor the Bowl of Hygeia to Tim Cutler. The award, established in 1966 and sponsored by the UC Pharmacy Alumni Association, goes to the graduating student who, in the estimation of classmates and faculty, best exemplifies the qualities most desirable in a pharmacist in action, thought and attitude. Scott Ayres, Peter Koshland and Jennifer Santoro were also finalists for the award. The pharmacy schools Class of 2000 presented the Joseph M. Long Foundation Prize for Excellence in Teaching to Susan Masters, PhD, assistant adjunct professor of cellular and molecular pharmacology. Links: |
