Nurses Union Ratifies Contract

The California Nurses Association has ratified a new two-year contract with the University of California, including UCSF and four other UC medical centers statewide, UC announced today.

The contract includes a step-based merit program in the first year, retroactive to May 1. In the second year, nurses will receive a 3 percent across-the-board pay increase, plus a step-based merit program.

David Odato, director of Human Resources at UCSF Medical Center, said the contract covers systemwide bargaining issues as well as issues related to the dissolution of UCSF Stanford Health Care. The agreement, which runs through April 30, 2002, will help UC stay competitive in California, where there is a shortage of qualified nurses.

CNA represents approximately 6,000 registered nurses at UC, including about 1,800 at UCSF.

A briefing for nursing managers and supervisors has been scheduled for today (June 13), 1 to 3 p.m., in room N217.
