Clean Air Hero Paul Blanc, MD, MPH, chief of occupational and environmental medicine at UCSF, was one of four "clean air heroes" honored by the American Lung Association of the Bay Area on Friday (May 19). He received an award from the association for his extensive research on the effects of toxins on respiratory health. The award, presented at the Tenth Annual Clean Air Luncheon, honors local Bay Area businesses, organizations and individuals who have made significant contributions in the fight against air pollution. Other recipients were: Tom Ammiano, president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors for initiating the Healthy Air and Smog Prevention ordinance; the Sonoma County Transit bus system for using clean natural gas vehicles; and Sarah Ward, Aetna US Healthcare, San Ramon, for developing a comprehensive commute alternative program.
