Campus Celebrates Asian Pacific American Week

Asian Pacific American Celebration Week at UCSF will feature a series of lectures and performances, May 22 and 26.

The following is the schedule of events:

Monday, May 22

Keynote Speaker -- "Determination, Hard Work and Perseverance," Warren Furutani, director, Asian Pacific American Affairs Office, Office of the Speaker, noon – 1 p.m., HSW-302.

Tuesday, May 23

Traditional and contemporary Japanese music -- Shoko Matsumoto and Philip Gelb, Koto and Shakuhachi (lute and flute), noon-1:30 p.m., MU Plaza,

Wednesday, May 24

Brown Bag Lecture -- "Asian Pacific Americans Potential Fulfilled," Dennis Hayashi, director, Fair Employment and Housing, noon-1 p.m., HSW 300. Co-sponsored with Public Service Programs’ Brown Bag Series.

Asian Pacific American Celebration at Laurel Heights -- Hawaiian dancing and music by ILIMA, noon-1 p.m. Call 476-2675 for more information.

Thursday, May 25

"PISTA" (A Filipino Town Celebration) -- Drama, music, dancing, food and exhibits, noon-1:30 p.m., Millberry Gym, 500 Parnassus.

Asian Pacific American Celebration at Mission Center -- Hawaiian dancing and music by ILIMA, noon-1 p.m. Call 476-2675 for more information.

Friday, May 26

Two one act plays – "Dream Butterfly," written and directed by Cecilia Gaerlan, and "The Urn," written and directed by Duy Nguyen of Theater Rice, noon-1 p.m., Toland Hall, U 142. Cosponsored with EMPACT! Presents.

Thursday, Friday, May 25 and 26

Cole Hall Cinema -- "Snow Falling on Cedars," Thursday, May 25, 5:45 p.m., 8 p.m., and Friday, May 26, 6:30 p.m., 8:45 p.m., Cole Hall. Call 476-6932 for prices.
