Ganem Named Faculty Research Lecturer

Dr. Donald E. GanemDonald E. Ganem, MD, professor and vice chair of microbiology and immunology, has been selected by the Academic Senate Committee on Research as the 43rd Faculty Research Lecturer for Founders Day 2000.

The Faculty Research Lecture is considered the foremost recognition of scientific achievement bestowed on an Academic Senate faculty member at UCSF.

Ganem will deliver the lecture, titled "Biology and Medicine: Scenes from a Marriage," on Wednesday, March 22, 2 p.m., in Cole Hall. The lecture, which is part of the campus’ Founders Day events, will be transmitted to Mount Zion, San Francisco General Hospital Medical Center and the SF VA Medical Center.

An investigator for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Ganem’s research relates to the molecular biology of viral replication, persistence, and pathogenesis of resultant disease in viral hepatitis and Kaposi's sarcoma. He is considered one of the leading scientists in his field.
