1999 Timeline for Dissolution Expected to be Announced in Early December March 1 is the earliest possible date that the operations of UCSF Stanford Health Care could be disbanded, the organization announced late last week. A more definitive timeline for the dissolution of the merger is expected in early December, according to Transition Times, a publication for employees of UCSF Stanford Health Care. As legal and financial matters are being resolved, a five-member management group is developing a plan to transfer specific central services to the sites during the next several weeks, employees were told. At a meeting Wednesday, representatives of UC and Stanford agreed that information technology and home health care would remain as joint services for the time being. Talks are continuing regarding possible longer term arrangements for those two services. "In addition, the feasibility of joint services for children's health and laboratories are still being explored," stated the article in Transition Times. "All other services, such as contracting, finance and purchasing, will be returned to the sites. Eugene Bauer, vice president of medical Affairs and dean of the Stanford medical school, Lee Goldman, interim vice chancellor of medical affairs at UCSF, and Christopher Dawes, chief operating officer of Lucile Packard Children's Hospitals are heading a group that continues to examine the possibility of maintaining joint clinical services in pediatrics. "The academic implications, organization models and financial feasibility are being studied," stated Transition Times. "The process is expected to conclude in about a month." The two universities have agreed to maintain a consolidated information technology department through Jan. 1 to ensure that systems are Y2K compliant and to continue shared services for up to six months. "During that time, IT management and the chief operating officers will study the possibility of maintaining shared IT services beyond that period and will identify any IT capital needs."
