Can You Bake a Scary Pie?

Empact! will get the first jump on Halloween on Friday, October 29, with several events at UCSF sites, including a unique "Bake n’Scare" contest.

Design and bake a scary-looking pie or cake, and make it tasty enough to impress the judges and you can walk away with a prize. The contest will be part of Empact! Presents’ 14th annual campus Halloween celebration, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Millberry Gym and game room. Scary pie entrants must register by Thursday. Call Empact! at 476-2675 to register your pie.

The Friday event will also include a pie-eating contest for the first 20 people to sign up and the traditional costume contest. New Halloween highlights this year will include a "Haunted House" – with personal tours by a "back-from-the-dead" rental agent -- game booths, fortune tellers, magicians and refreshments. The event is sponsored by Health Net and North American Mortgage Company.

Staff at Laurel Heights and Mission Center also will have a full slate of Empact!-sponsored Halloween activities on Friday.

At Laurel Heights, noon to 1 p.m., in the second floor Conference Center, there will be a "60’s and 70’s Groove Fest," pumpkin carving and costume contests, and a $1 barbecue hot dog lunch for the first 100 people. Co-sponsored by Cafe 3333 at Laurel Heights.

At Mission Center, 11:30 to 12:30, in the Hartsook Room, pumpkin carving and costume contests, food vendors, fortune tellers and games – including a cake walk, coffin dice roll, creature toss, kill the pumpkin and more.
