1999 Maurer New Dermatology Chief at San Francisco General Toby A. Maurer has been appointed chief of the Department of Dermatology at San Francisco General Hospital Medical Center. A UCSF assistant professor of dermatology, she joined the faculty in 1995. In addition to her responsibilities at SFGHMC, Maurer sees patients at the UCSF Lakeshore Medical Group and serves as director of the HIV/dermatology clinic at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco. Her current research interests include skin disorders related to HIV disease and development of software for teaching skin cancer diagnosis to primary care physicians. In 1993 she received a mentorship award from the Women’s Dermatology Society to study at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, Belgium, where she conducted research in HIV. Maurer is active with the American Academy of Physicians and American Academy of Dermatology and serves on the Thalidomide Advisory Committee of the Slone Epidemiology Unit at Boston University. After earning her MD degree at the University of Calgary, she completed her residency in family practice and dermatology at UCSF. She currently holds a fellowship at UCSF in AIDS dermatology.
