Wintroub to Rejoin UCSF as Associate Dean and Dermatology Chair

Bruce WintroubHaile Debas, dean of the School of Medicine, has announced that Bruce Wintroub is rejoining the School as an associate dean and as chair of the department of dermatology.

Wintroub is currently working with Lloyd H. (Holly) Smith, associate dean in the School of Medicine, on academic space planning, a responsibility he will fully assume upon Smith's retirement from UCSF on January 1, 2000. He will also replace Richard Odom, the current chair of the department of dermatology, upon his retirement on January 1, 2000.

Wintroub, former chief medical officer of UCSF Stanford Health Care, served as the Executive Vice Dean of the School of Medicine from 1995-1997 and was the chair of the department of dermatology from 1985 to 1995.

Before joining UCSF's faculty in 1982, Wintroub taught and practiced dermatology at many esteemed institutions in the Boston area, including Harvard Medical School, the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Beth Israel Hospital, Mass. General Hospital and the Children's Hospital.

Wintroub's past research projects have included pathogenesis of bullous diseases, mast cells and eosinophils in cutaneous inflammation, characterization of human mast cell enzymes and use of photopheresis in cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, atopic dermatitis and scleroderma.
