1999 Radiation Oncology Faculty Appointments Daphne Haas-Kogan, assistant professor in the UCSF Department of Radiation Oncology, has been selected as the 1999 Pfizer New Faculty Scholar. The Pfizer award is made in support of Haas-Kogan's research project entitled "The Role of PTEN Mutations in the Pathogenesis of Human Malignant Astrocytomas," which will be carried out at UCSF. The two-year grant, provided by the US Pharmaceuticals Group of Pfizer Inc, is awarded for the period of July 1, 1999 through June 30, 2001. Haas-Kogan is a 1991 graduate of the UCSF School of Medicine. She completed a fellowship in radiation oncology research at UCSF before completing her residency in 1997.
David A. Larson, MD, PhD, professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology, has been elected President Elect for the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology for the year 1999-2000. Larson, who is the co-director of the Radiosurgery Gamma Knife Program at UCSF, holds a doctorate in high energy physics from the University of Chicago and a medical degree from the University of Miami. Larson joined the UCSF faculty in radiation oncology in 1985 after an internship at UCSF and radiation oncology residency at Harvard Medical School. Links: UCSF Department of Radiation Oncology
