1st appeared 9 August 1999 Summer Students to Present Research This Week This summer, UCSF has hosted 46 undergraduate students from as nearby as UC Berkeley and from as far away as the University of Puerto Rico. They are here as part of the Graduate Division's ten-week summer research training program and will present the results of their research both in oral presentations and a poster session during their last week. Oral presentations will be held in HSW 301 on Tuesday, August 10 from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and from 2-5 p.m. and again on Wednesday, August 11 and Thursday, August 12 from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The program will conclude with a poster session on Friday, August 13 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Millberry Union Conference Center. All events are open to the campus community. The program, now in its 15th year, is directed by Clifford Attkisson, dean of the graduate division, and professor John Watson. Students receive an intensive research experience working with faculty in their labs and at their research sites. Students work in all four professional schools with the majority in the basic biological sciences in the School of Medicine. UCSF faculty, postdoctoral scholars and graduate students who work with the program have made it successful and have made it a national model for outreach and recruitment. The program is funded primarily by a grant from the National Institute of Mental Health.
