Black Heritage Month at UCSF
The campus will celebrate Black Heritage Month with a series of events beginning this
week.
The theme for this year's events, presented by the UCSF Black Caucus, is "Moving
Forward Without Forgetting the Past." Below is the schedule for Black Heritage Month:
- "The African in America," PBS series documentary series
from the first slaveship to the post-slavery African-American experience in North America.
Series continues through Thursday, Feb. 11, 5:30-7:30 p.m., HSW 300.
- "Student Outreach and Retention for the Black American at UC --
Past, Present, Future," featuring speakers Peggy Harvey-Lee, Dr. Bilal Shabazz and
Dr. Charles Alexander, Wednesday, Feb. 17, 12-1 p.m., HSW 302.
- "Jazz Under the Stars," sponsored by the Black Student
Health Alliance, Friday, Feb. 19, 5-8 p.m., Millberry Union, City Lights Room.
- Black Vendors Fair, Monday, Feb.22, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Millberry Union.
- "Moving Forward Without Forgetting the Past," UC Regent
William Bagley, UCSF Black Heritage Month keynote speaker, Wednesday, Feb. 24, 12-1 p.m.,
HSW 300.
- "Survival 101A -- Discussion: Getting Employed, Being Promoted
at UCSF," featuring speakers Michael Adams, Bill Stevens, Crystal Morris and Robert
Rojas, Friday, Feb. 26, 12-1 p.m., HSW 300.
- "Gala IX," the annual Black Caucus gala, Saturday, Feb. 27,
6:30 p.m.-1 a.m., San Francisco Airport Marriott Hotel.
