1st appeared 6 October 1998 Still Time to Join UCSF in Race for the Cure®
You can pick up a registration form all week at tables located in Millberry Union and outside the Mount Zion cafeteria. The entry fee for the race is $20 and proceeds from the fees and pledges fund both national research efforts and local breast cancer initiatives. The San Francisco race benefits the local chapter of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and its educational programs, free mammography screening and follow-up for medically under-served women in six Bay Area counties. The Race for the Cure® series has become the largest series of 5K runs in the nation, held in 86 cities across the country in 1998 with over 500,000 participants expected. Complimentary exhibits and post-race refreshments will be provided along with music by Noelle Hampton. Limited discount parking is available at the UCSF parking garage at $5 per car. The special event parking entrance is at Arguello and Irving Streets.
Pledged members of the UCSF team (corporate team #38, by the way) will be eligible for a raffle -- with prizes such as a free dinner at Elroy's and gift certificates to the Gap, Banana Republic, Big 5 Sports, and Wilkes Bashford -- and will receive a Breast Care Center race T-shirt, as well as bagels and coffee before the race. (When registering, make sure to include the UCSF team number on the registration form.) UCSF Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center staff, including physicians, will be hosting the UCSF booth on the day of the race and the UCSF Mobile Mammography Van will be offering mammogram screenings from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
