1st appeared 17 September 1998 Center for Gender Equity Sponsors Domestic Violence Conference "Domestic Violence And The Workplace: Silence Equals Violence" Conference will take place on Tuesday, October 20, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., at the UCSF Laurel Heights Conference Center. Sponsored by the UCSF Center for Gender Equity, the conference will focus on domestic violence and how it impacts employers and employees in the workplace. Keynote speakers include the Honorable Sheila James Kuehl, speaker pro Tempore of the California State Assembly (D-Santa Monica) and Bonnie J. Campbell, director of Violence Against Women Office in the US Department of Justice. Both women are strong voices in the domestic violence movement and have spent many years fighting to eradicate violence in our society. The conference will also include workshops on a variety of topics including "Domestic Violence and the Law"; "Domestic Violence in the Workplace: What is an Employer's Responsibility?"; and "Transforming the Batterer: Is Recovery Possible?". In addition, a community resource fair will feature various community agencies from the Bay Area that will provide information on domestic violence resources. Registration is required to attend the conference. The fee is $35.00 if registered by September 30; $45 to register from October 1 - 6. The Center for Gender Equity is integral to UCSF's mission of teaching, research, and public service.
