| Kuo Feeling 'Fat 'n Fuzzy' Alan Kuo is back in San Francisco and is feeling "fat 'n fuzzy." Still recovering from the bone marrow transplant he underwent in December, Kuo, a UCSF postdoc, must remain in relative isolation to ward off infections. But from his latest Internet dispatch it's clear that his sense of humor has emerged victorious from his battle with leukemia. Kuo tells Daybreak that he's "not out of the woods yet," but has beat the odds so far. "My UCSF hem/oncologist, Hope Rugo, says that I am doing as well as can be expected, considering the intrinsic medical difficulties of my case: the fact that I was in blast phase leukemia, and the fact that my bone marrow donor has a major tissue antigen mismatch with me," Kuo said. "Since I came close to kidney and liver failure while undergoing transplant in Seattle, the Seattle team someArial calls me the 'miracle patient'. Today, I am sitting here at home, I do feel it is a miracle, and I am grateful -- and astounded -- simply to be alive." For his latest update, visit his website.
