| Two Winners of Daybreak Contest
If you guessed that this photo was taken at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, then you were correct. But you would have had to email this answer to Daybreak, as did Jon Pierucci of the Chancellor's Office and Gene Gibson at the VAMC, in order to be a new, proud owner of a Daybreak mug. But fear not, you'll have another chance to win next week, when the contest continues with a new mystery photo. Now for a little history of the VAMC: Architecturally designed in an eclectic California-Spanish-Mayan style, the original facility had 21 buildings erected at a cost of $1,250,000. The staff consisted of 25 doctors and a distinguished group of consultants. There were 340 beds, including 12 for women and a 36-bed diagnostic center. The hospital was intended to be utilized as a center for disabled war veterans seeking compensation or special medical care. Today the VAMC is affiliated with UCSF's Medical, Dental, Pharmacy and Nursing Schools -- a major factor in the VAMC's Research and Development Program's continued growth and support.
