MLK Award Nominations

Nominations are now being sought for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awards, which will be presented during MLK Week in January. Three awards are given annually -- one each to a UCSF faculty/academic member, a staff member and a student. Nominations are due Friday, Nov. 7.

The selection criteria are as follows:

Extraordinary leadership in the development and implementation of programs or activities which have:

  • promoted and advanced mutual respect, understanding and appreciation for the cultural and ethnic diversity within our campus community;
  • promoted and advanced the recruitment and hiring and admission of underrepresented ethnic groups in our campus community;
  • promoted and advanced the retention and career mentoring of underrepresented ethnic groups in our campus community;
  • assisted in ensuring an equal opportunity for career advancement for underrepresented ethnic groups in our campus community;
  • encouraged the participation of traditionally underrepresented groups in campus committees, activities and events.

Any member of the campus community may nominate someone. For more information or for nomination forms, call the Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Office, 476-4752. Nomination forms are also available at the Office of the Chancellor, S 126, and at the Moffitt Hospital Information Desk. The Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Committee is chaired by Michael B. Adams, director of Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity.

Nominations must be returned to the Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Office, Box 0988, 145 Irving Street, by 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7.
