Dentistry Professor Honored

Gary C. Armitage, DDS, MS, vice chair and professor in the School of Dentistry’s department of stomatology, has been named a fellow of the American Academy of Periodontology.

The award, funded by the Procter and Gamble Company, was presented to Armitage last week at the AAP’s annual meeting in San Diego. He was recognized for his more than 25 years of exceptional service to the Academy. Armitage has served as chairman for the AAP’s Research, Science and Therapy Committee and has been a key member of numerous other committees.

In addition to AAP activities, Armitage is past president of the Periodontal Research Group of the International Association for Dental Research and is active in many other dental professional organizations. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Periodontology and the Journal of Dental Research.
