I would like to host an intern, but what will s/he do?
The internship should be a defined project that will allow the intern to work independently with your regular supervision and mentoring. Understandably, an intern can work on a variety of tasks that will exercise any number of skills including, but not limited to, administrative, research, analytical/critical thinking, writing, computer, etc. Please, however, limit the amount of administrative work for your intern. Internship projects/ tasks should help meet programmatic needs of your department or organization and also offer a meaningful learning opportunity for the intern. Interested Supervisors must complete an Intern Request Form. Download form here.
If you have questions about hosting an intern or potential projects, please call the Internship Coordinator and she will help you think about how to structure and internship project.
How does the selection process work?
The Internship Coordinator will review all applications and conduct interviews with each qualified applicant. The Coordinator then matches interns with available projects, taking into consideration the intern’s skills and interests, as well as the needs of the project. If you would like to interview potential candidates, please indicate so on your “Request for Interns” form. The interview is the best opportunity for you to personally determine if an intern is qualified and appropriate for the position. You will be contacted when the review and matching process is complete. To provide an ideal match with all the variables considered, please also keep in mind that the placement process can sometimes be lengthy and complex.
