How do I apply?

If you are interested in applying, please submit to the Internship Coordinator your application, current resume, and cover letter expressing specific interest(s) in the Internship Program.  Applications are accepted throughout the year. Space is limited, so you are encouraged to apply early.  Download application here.

What does the program require? What do you look for in an intern?

  • The ability to work independently
  • Strong communication skills
  • Each intern is asked to set realistic goals that can be accomplished during the internship
  • Interns should have the ability to handle multiple tasks at once while interacting with diverse population groups
  • An interest in women’s health is essential
  • Bilingual applicants are a plus

How is the internship unique to other opportunities?

As much as possible, we try to match an intern’s skills and interests to projects already established at UCSF or within community organizations.  If you have a particular area of interest, we will work with you to customize your experience to support your learning goals

As an intern, what will I be doing?

Internships with the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health involves two essential components:  1) Being assigned to a specific project placement which can vary depending on the program needs at the time 2) a Leadership Development curriculum which involves exposure to the different aspects of women’s health and ongoing assessment of goals and progress. As an intern, in your spare time, you may also be asked to provide general support for the CoE and Women’s Health Resource Center.  You will also be asked to develop a “Learning Contract”.  At the beginning of the intern cycle, each intern will meet with the Internship Coordinator to develop a “Learning Contract” to help identify goals and objectives for the internship.

Can I create my own internship?

Absolutely! If you are passionate about a particular issue and have an idea on how to better our Center, we are open to your ideas and encourage your creativity!

I am interested in getting clinical experience, is this the right place?

Internships usually involve research, planning and administrative project work.  Other programs such as volunteer departments in local hospitals might best serve students solely interested in clinical work.

I am more interested in a volunteer position at the hospital, where do I go?
