The Women’s Health Internship Program is an opportunity for individuals to explore areas of personal and career interest, to formulate future goals and plans and to acquire the skills necessary to meet their goals. Since its inception in October 1996, the UCSF Women’s Health Internship Program has matched over 250 interns to women’s health projects in the Bay Area. Through the program, interns gain hands-on work experience in women’s health. We aim to make the internship a meaningful experience for the prospective interns and the supervisors participating in the program.  

The primary long-term goals of the Internship Program are to:

• cultivate, prepare and educate the next generation of women’s health leaders 
• empower interns with knowledge of future career options and opportunities 
• provide individuals with the tools to develop and exercise strong communication and negotiation skills
• develop working partnerships with academic institutions, other educational organizations, and community groups that represent the diversity of the Bay Area

Interns come to the Center of Excellence from a wide range of communities, schools, and organizations- primarily from the Bay Area but also beyond- many of which have on-going partnerships with the CoE. Our program is committed to serving diverse groups of women and girls.
