Baylee De Castro

Baylee DeCastro returns to the Center of Excellence as a Special Projects Coordinator. She works on short-term projects as well as some of our community programs.

Baylee began her work at the CoE as a Youth Steering Committee member in High School for the First Annual Young Women’s Health Conference. In 2001, she worked with UCSF researchers and physicians, to develop the first UCSF Passport to Health. She also brings valuable experience in mobilizing people to achieve significant political and social action. As the former spokesperson for the UC Sudan Divestment Task Force and founder of the Darfur Action Committee, UCLA Reproductive Health Coalition and Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance, she has a record of success with managing volunteers, media relations and advocacy campaigns.

Throughout her 5 years with these organizations Baylee focused particularly on the power of people to impact change and spent considerable time doing public-speaking and developing advocacy strategies. Baylee recently returned from South Africa, where she completed research as a visiting intern at Health Economics HIV/AIDS Research Division at the University of KwaZulu Natal. She brings experience in community outreach, program development, strategic and long-term planning and grant-writing as Community Liaison for the UCLA CoE. Baylee earned her B.A. in International Development Studies with a minor in Women’s Studies from UCLA.
