Community The UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health is committed to building partnerships with the community to strengthen all its activities. By combining the resources of the university with the energy of the community, we can promote comprehensive improvements in women's health which are relevant to women's lives and reflect their priorities. In addition to partnering with individual organizations, the CoE participates in community activities and regularly hosts educational events and programs for girls and women of all ages and with diverse interests. Some of the community events and programs sponsored by the CoE include:
Some Resources and Downloads are also available for our friends and colleagues. The Young Women's Health Conference. Co-sponsored by the UCSF CoE and State Senator Jackie Speier, this annual event is designed by and for young women. The mission of the YWHC is to empower young women with resources and knowledge so that they can make wise decisions about their health, well-being, and future endeavors. Over 1,000 high school girls attend the conference each year. Participants visit an exhibit hall featuring local youth-serving organizations and engage in small interactive workshops on topics such as depression, body image, reproductive health, youth rights, dating violence, and maintaining healthy family relationships. They hear presentations from women who can serve as role models by sharing their inspiring stories of success and perseverance and have the opportunity to share their talents during a vibrant and entertaining open mic session. Please visit the YWHC website for more information on this year's keynote speakers, workshop topics, and program agendas for past and current conferences. The 13th Annual UCSF Women's Health 2020: Tentatively scheduled in Spring 2006 Each year the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health sponsors a women's health conference designed to bring the latest research findings and clinical knowledge to the public. Academic Community Partnership Program There are many challenges facing community-based organizations and academic medical centers in reaching out to each other to build true collaborative partnerships. Building true partnerships between academic health centers and community-based organizations requires understanding the historical and cultural barriers that have impeded such partnerships in the past. The UCSF CoE has teamed up with Johnson & Johnson to offer a program that explores the challenges, opportunities and power of strong academic-community partnerships. This program aims to enhance the progress of creating a new paradigm of academic-community partnerships. For more information, please visit our website: www.ucsf.edu/coe/acp |
