Virology & Microbial Pathogenesis

The focus of the diverse community of virologists at UCSF centers on the molecular biology and pathogenesis of viral diseases, including those caused by  hepatitis B and C viruses, poliovirus, herpesviruses  and HIV. A fellowship to support students interested in research in virology is offered by the Gladstone Institute at UCSF. The virology community also offers an elective in Molecular Virology. The Microbial Pathogenesis community includes investigators with interests in the pathogenesis of bacterial, fungal and parasitic diseases. An elective in Microbial Pathogenesis is offered in the spring, the program meets weekly for a Journal Club/research talk presentation, and the program sponsors a yearly symposium. More details about the program can be found at the Microbial Pathogenesis website.
