Kathleen Giacomini, PhD
Pharmacogenomics of Membrane Transporters
Selected Publications | Complete Publications

Kathy Giacomini’s research focuses on targeting and disposition of drugs and on genetic variation in drug response. She is particularly interested in the role of membrane transporters in drug response. Her research has four areas of focus: (a) development of targeted drug therapies for cancer; (b) pharmacogenetics of drug-induced nephrotoxicity centered on anti-viral drugs; (c) the role of liver specific transporters in treatment and progression of fatty liver; and (d) the physiologic and pharmacologic role of nucleoside and nucleotide transporters. Her studies range from cellular and molecular studies of the mechanisms of membrane transport to translational studies in transgenic and knockout mice and clinical studies.
