Your gifts of time and expertise mean a lot to the School of Pharmacy. Below are a variety of ways that you can share your experience with students, advocate on behalf of UCSF and become involved in your next class reunion. Take a look, then find a role that's right for you!

Alumni Mentors

  • Pharmacy Alumni Mentor Night is co-sponsored by the Alumni Association and the School. This springtime event allows students to meet and talk with you and your fellow alumni volunteers from a variety of practice areas. Volunteers share stories from their professional experience and answer questions from students interested in exploring particular careers.
  • Workplace Visits are another way you can share your experience with pharmacy students. Students spend a partial or full day shadowing you at work and taking a close look at what it means to work in your field.
  • Professional Meeting Sponsorship pairs alumni with students to attend meetings or conferences such as those held by the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists (CSHP), the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). As a volunteer, you cover the students registration costs and attend one or more seminars with the student, helping him or her make the most of the informational and networking opportunities available.
  • Employing Students and Recent Graduates is the most direct way you can help young pharmacists launch their careers. In conjunction with the Student Affairs Office, the Alumni Association sponsors a program that connects current students and recent graduates with alumni to discuss employment opportunities. As many of the nation's top health-care professionals are trained at UCSF, alumni as well as students can benefit from this program.

For more information on any of these mentoring opportunities, contact Director of Alumni Relations Marie Parfitt Pattie at 415/476-9806 or mppattie@support.ucsf.edu.

Join us for UC Day!

UC Day is the one time of the year when all UC alumni associations collectively come together with their alumni, donors and friends to carry their voice to Sacramento and discuss with their elected representatives issues of concern to the University. It is also the only time when the UC systemwide family comes together in one room to acknowledge UC's academic excellence and its contribution to the state.

Since no other group within the University - community faculty, administrators, or students - can be as effective as alumni and friends in reaching public officials and promoting the needs of UC, we hope you'll join us in March.

For more specific information go to: ucday.org or contact Nancy Newman at nnewman@support.ucsf.edu.

UCSF Advocacy Network

Become involved in political advocacy on behalf of the University by joining the UCSF Advocacy Network. Typical activities include lobbying on issues affecting the University and encouraging other alumni to join the effort.

You may sign up to be an advocate for UC at ucforcalifornia.org.

This website will also allow you to type in your zip code and in a few keystrokes send a letter on UC's behalf to the Governor and your state representatives. It only takes a minute—and your voice is needed.

To learn more, contact Alumni Coordinator Nancy Newman at nnewman@support.ucsf.edu.

Class Reunion Program

If you're celebrating your class reunion at the next Homecoming, consider joining your Class Reunion Program Committee. Volunteers help plan and coordinate the weekend's events. Contact your class coordinator for more information about volunteering on the committee.
