Fifth and Kirkham Traffic Calming

Concerns from the Fifth & Kirkham neighbors included:

  • Pedestrian safety at the intersection and adjacent blocks
  • Lack of observance of stop signs in all directions, particularly east on Kirkham turning left to go north on Fifth Avenue, and south on Fifth turning right to go west on Kirkham Street
  • The speed of cars on both Kirkham and Fifth
  • Increased cut-through traffic due to reconfiguration of Seventh Avenue, and implementation of traffic calming measures on nearby streets

Community Meeting (August 29, 2012):
A community meeting was held on August 29, 2012, and was attended by 40 neighbors. Fehr & Peers presented the neighbors’ intersection changes, as well as revisions to them, that both Fehr & Peers & SFMTA felt might better serve the neighborhood.
