The UCSF community is invited to hear Chancellor Sam Hawgood, MBBS, deliver his inaugural State of the University address on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

The speech will be simulcast in these locations:

  • Laurel Heights Auditorium
  • Mission Bay’s Genentech Hall, Byers Auditorium
  • San Francisco General Hospital, Carr Auditorium
  • Mount Zion, Herbst Hall

The event will be held in Cole Hall Auditorium from noon to 1 p.m., streamed live on the web and simulcast to several UCSF locations. The entire speech will be available via video on demand about an hour after the event.

Hawgood, a member of the UCSF community for 32 years, will highlight UCSF’s successes over the past year, and outline his vision for the path forward.

“The work we do at UCSF occurs at the intersection of three sectors – higher education, health care and discovery,” he said. “Opportunities for advancement, even transformation, in all three sectors are huge but all three of these sectors are also ripe for disruption by new organizational and business models.”

The speech will be followed by a question-and-answer period, in which the chancellor will also be taking questions from the audience at Cole Hall and via Twitter. Listeners can tweet their questions and comments to #UCSFSOTU.

To mark UCSF’s 150 years since its start as a medical college, the chancellor has invited past winners of the Chancellor Awards, who will be recognized as a group for their commitment to advancing health worldwide.

The first 200 people to arrive at Cole Hall will receive a free 150th anniversary gift bag with souvenirs. Refreshments will be served.
